Spectrum conference to focus on Cayman’s global financial reputation

Cayman’s international reputation and the way the jurisdiction is perceived as a financial center will be among the topics examined at the Spectrum financial services conference Oct. 1 at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman.

The annual conference, organized by Cayman consulting firm FTS, will bring together financial services, government and regulatory representatives. This year’s programme includes a panel examining Cayman’s international standing, as well as a separate workshop on reputation, communications and the use of artificial intelligence.

The “Cayman Through a Global Lens” panel will include economist Michael Mainelli, who helped design the Global Financial Centres Index; Cayman Finance CEO Steve McIntosh; trust and brand specialist Jasmine Kees; financial services communications specialist Kimberly Wood; and strategic communications and public affairs adviser Chad Kolton. The panel will consider how Cayman is viewed internationally and how those perceptions affect the jurisdiction and its financial services firms.

Spectrum founder and economist Paul Byles said Cayman has strengthened its regulatory framework but that regulation alone does not determine the jurisdiction’s reputation. “We also need to understand how Cayman is viewed internationally, where gaps in perception still exist and how we communicate our strengths more effectively. Spectrum is about creating space for those kinds of practical, forward-looking conversations,” Byles said.

A three-hour workshop, “From Perception to Trust,” will follow Oct. 2 at George Town Yacht Club. Led by Kees and Cayman-based AI strategist Tamsin Deasey-Weinstein, it will cover communications strategies for financial services firms and practical uses of generative AI in marketing, communications and business development. Topics will also include confidentiality, governance, accountability and human oversight.

The main conference will address international tax and transparency developments, including automatic exchange of information, Pillar Two and CRS 2.0, along with artificial intelligence, crypto and fintech, regulation and the investment funds sector.

The main Spectrum conference takes place on 1 October from 8am to 5pm, followed by the ‘From Perception to Trust’ workshop on 2 October from 9am to noon. Tickets are available for each event individually, with a discounted bundle available for those attending both.
