More than 130 students and early-career Caymanians attended the inaugural Cayman NextGen Insurance Forum on May 28, an event aimed at increasing awareness of career opportunities in the Cayman Islands’ insurance and reinsurance sectors.

The forum was hosted at the Grand Cayman Marriott Resort by the Insurance Managers Association of Cayman (IMAC) in partnership with the Cayman International Reinsurance Companies Association (CIRCA) and the Cayman Islands Insurance Association (CIIA). Organizers said the event was designed to help develop local talent and strengthen the industry’s future workforce.

Michael Myles, Minister for Caymanian Employment and Immigration, opened the event and highlighted the importance of expanding career access for Caymanians. Representatives from the three industry associations, Troy Matarazzo (IMAC), Simranjit Singh (CIRCA) and Evelyn Tibbetts-Farrar (CIIA), also spoke about efforts to build a stronger talent pipeline through collaboration.

“As the inaugural Forum, the event marks the beginning of deeper, sustained engagement for IMAC with young Caymanians and the future workforce of the insurance sector,” said Matarazzo. “This Forum reflects our commitment to connecting young Caymanians with real opportunities across the sector and highlights the range of pathways available from an early stage.”

The programme included a young professionals panel moderated by Brittany MacVicar of Cayman Finance. Panelists shared their career experiences and discussed opportunities within the insurance, financial services and regulatory sectors. Participants included representatives from Cayman Finance, Island Heritage, Appleby, the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority and KPMG.

An interactive question-and-answer session allowed attendees to ask about career paths, professional development and working in the insurance and reinsurance industries. The event also featured a Career Insights Hub, where students met with professionals from a range of fields including insurance, banking, investments, compliance, legal services, human resources and auditing.

Organisations participating in the networking component included the Cayman Actuarial Network, Cayman Finance, the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority, the Cayman Islands Recruitment Association, Workforce Opportunities & Residency Cayman and Hello2HIRED.

According to organisers, the forum is intended to be part of a broader effort to encourage Caymanians to explore careers in the insurance and reinsurance industries and to support long-term workforce development in the sector.
