The Maples Group has appointed five Caymanian lawyers to senior positions within its Cayman Islands office, naming two new partners and three new Of Counsel across four practice areas.
The appointments at Maples and Calder, the group’s law firm, include Joe Jackson in Finance and Katrina Watson in Funds & Investment Management as partners, as well as Kimberly Robinson in Corporate and Sasha Hunte and Tracy Hylton in Funds & Investment Management as Of Counsel. The firm said the promotions reflect continued growth in its legal services operations locally.
Jackson, Watson, Robinson and Hunte all completed the firm’s articled clerk programme. The group said the programme, along with scholarships, secondments and mentorship initiatives, forms part of its efforts to support the development of Caymanian lawyers from training through senior leadership roles.
Michael Richardson, the newly appointed managing partner of the Cayman Islands office, said in a statement that supporting professional development is part of the firm’s core values and that the promotions underscore its commitment to the sustainability of the local legal profession.
Jackson, who joined the firm in 2013, advises on asset and structured finance transactions, including collateralised loan obligations, fund finance and banking matters. Watson, who joined in 2016, focuses on private equity and hedge fund structures, fund restructurings and Cayman Islands regulatory matters.
Robinson joined the firm as an articled clerk in 2013 and works on corporate and commercial matters, including investment funds and finance. Hunte, with the firm since 2003, advises on investment funds and regulatory issues, while Hylton, who joined in 2014, works on the establishment and launch of investment funds and related corporate matters.
The firm said additional promotions are expected pending regulatory approvals.
