CIRCA to host second annual ReConnect conference, showcasing growing reinsurance sector

The Cayman International Reinsurance Companies Association (CIRCA) will host the second annual ReConnect Conference on 10-11 April 2025 at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman.

Building on the success of the 2024 event, ReConnect returns with an expanded agenda focused on Cayman’s role as a leading reinsurance jurisdiction,  bringing together regulators, investors, executives and other industry stakeholders for two days of discussion, networking and insights into the sector’s development.

“Our objective with ReConnect is to bring together key participants in the industry and provide a forum for constructive dialogue,” said Greg Mitchell, Chair of CIRCA. “The conference reflects the continued growth of Cayman’s reinsurance sector and the jurisdiction’s role in the global market.”

The agenda opens with Discover Cayman: Your Guide to Setting Up a Reinsurer, focused on the practical and regulatory steps to establishing a reinsurer in Cayman. It is followed by Discover Cayman: Your Guide to Island Living, which highlights aspects of living and working in the jurisdiction.

The second day includes technical and regulatory sessions, beginning with MythBusters: Cayman Actuarial Edition, which will seek to debunk misconceptions about Cayman and showcase the robust actuarial talent in the jurisdiction.

A key session will be Bridging Borders: A Conversation with Onshore and Offshore Regulators, moderated by Patrick Reeder, Chief Government Affairs Officer at Everlake. Panelists include Kara Ebanks, Head of the Insurance Supervision Division at the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority; Commissioner Nathan Houdek of the Wisconsin Insurance Department; Commissioner Carter Lawrence of the Tennessee Commerce and Insurance Department; Commissioner Glen Mulready of the Oklahoma Insurance Department; and Commissioner John Pike of the Utah Insurance Department. The session will address cross-border regulatory cooperation, oversight and supervisory developments.

Other sessions include Adapting to Change: Macro Trends in the Reinsurance Landscape, which will examine global market trends; Riding the Sidecar: Navigating Capital Partnerships and Evolving Market Structures, focuses on the increasing popularity of Sidecars, structuring options and investor considerations; Raising the Stakes: Capital Raising Strategies for Reinsurance, exploring fundraising approaches; Charting the Course: The Road Ahead for Cayman’s Reinsurance Industry, discussing how Cayman should evolve to continue to meet the needs of the industry; and Executive Vision: C-Suite Perspectives, offering insights from senior industry executives.

Networking events, including a golf social, catamaran cruise, lunch and cocktail receptions are also part of the programme.

Cayman’s reinsurance sector continues to grow, with over 100 licensed reinsurance companies contributing to $41 billion in premiums written and $152 billion in assets under management as of the end of 2024. The jurisdiction’s regulatory framework, depth of expertise, and collaboration between government, regulators and service providers support its development as a reinsurance centre.
