CIMA names Petr Jakubik to lead Financial Stability and Statistics

Petr Jakubik

The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority has appointed Petr Jakubik as head of its Financial Stability and Statistics Division, effective 3 Sept. The role oversees CIMA’s research on financial stability and the compilation and release of official statistics.

Jakubik brings more than two decades of international experience in macroprudential supervision and statistical development. His background includes senior posts at the Bank for International Settlements, the IMF’s Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre and the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority, where he worked on financial stability assessments, stress testing and economic research.

“With his extensive background in financial stability and statistical development, Jakubik is uniquely positioned to support the Authority in strengthening its monitoring frameworks and responding proactively to emerging risks,” Acting Chief Executive Officer Patrick Bodden said in a statement.

CIMA said Jakubik holds doctoral degrees in finance and economics, multiple master’s degrees in related fields, and has taught finance and economics since 2007. He previously served as chief economist at the Czech National Bank and has received recognition for his research, including awards from the BIS.

The appointment comes as regulators globally continue to focus on systemic risk, insurance and climate-related threats, areas CIMA said Jakubik has published on extensively.
