Nineteen Caymanian students studying in the United Kingdom recently attended a networking event hosted by international professional services firm Mourant at its London office. The event, organised in partnership with nonprofit organisation Cayman Connection, brought together Caymanian undergraduate and postgraduate students from across the UK to meet industry professionals and learn about career opportunities in the legal and financial services sectors.
The gathering marked Mourant’s first in-person Student Mixer and provided students with information about employment and professional development opportunities at the firm’s offices in London and the Cayman Islands. Representatives from Mourant’s Cayman legal team based in London, Mourant Governance Services and several business services departments attended the event to discuss career paths and share their professional experiences. Discussions also covered the experiences of Caymanian students living and studying overseas, as well as opportunities in law, governance and the wider professional services industry.
Alex Last, Mourant’s London managing partner and a member of its Cayman Investment Funds practice, said the firm was committed to supporting young Caymanians entering the workforce. “As one of Mourant’s key jurisdictions, Cayman plays a vital role in our global business, and we are committed to supporting and nurturing the next generation of Caymanian talent,” Last said. “Events like this provide a valuable opportunity to build connections, share experiences and help students explore the many career paths available to them as they begin their professional journeys.”
Rejonté Rivers, Senior Associate in the firm’s Cayman Funds and Corporate team based in London, added: “It was an absolute pleasure to host my fellow Caymanians in our London office for our first in-person Student Mixer. Getting to know each of the students and hearing about their journey so far, as well as imparting some career advice was such a delight. Thank you to all the students who attended from near and far. Fostering the next generation of Caymanian talent is hugely important to me and I am keen to continue to support students coming up in the industry. I am glad that the students know that we are here in the UK offering support and opportunities, along with Cayman Connection. We look forward to catching up with students again soon!”
Following the networking session, students and firm representatives continued their discussions during a social gathering at Electric Shuffle London Bridge. Mourant, which provides legal, governance and other professional services internationally, said it hopes to organise similar events in the future.
