Cayman delegation headed to Ohio for talks with US insurance regulators

Premier André Ebanks led a Cayman Islands delegation to Ohio last week for meetings with U.S. insurance regulators and other industry stakeholders as Cayman seeks Qualified Jurisdiction Status from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

Ebanks, who also serves as minister for financial services and commerce, attended the NAIC’s 2026 Summer National Meeting in Columbus from Aug. 11-14. The meeting brought together U.S. federal and state regulators and international participants to discuss insurance issues including annuity structures, property and casualty coverage and market regulation.

The Cayman Islands government said it has submitted an application to the NAIC for Qualified Jurisdiction Status, and Ebanks planned to discuss the application during the meeting. The government described the visit as part of its continuing efforts to strengthen relationships with U.S. regulators and promote international regulatory cooperation.

Ebanks was joined by Parliamentary Secretary Julie Hunter, Ministry of Financial Services and Commerce Senior Policy Adviser Razaak Busari, Cabinet Office International Affairs Analyst Sean Whewell and representatives of the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority.

The government said the broader discussions in Columbus were intended to maintain engagement with U.S. insurance and reinsurance stakeholders and reinforce confidence in the Cayman Islands’ regulatory framework.
