Meenaa Azmayesh
Offshore law firm Baker & Partners has appointed Meenaa Azmayesh as a senior litigator in its Cayman Islands office, expanding its disputes practice with a lawyer experienced in cross-border commercial litigation, fraud and asset recovery, and insolvency matters.
The appointment comes as the firm continues to grow its Cayman Islands presence, Baker & Partners said. Azmayesh will focus on complex commercial and civil disputes, including cases involving fraud, asset recovery and insolvency litigation.
Before joining Baker & Partners, Azmayesh spent more than seven years with Walkers, where she worked in the firm’s Hong Kong and British Virgin Islands offices. Her practice included commercial litigation, contentious insolvency proceedings, shareholder disputes, fraud and asset tracing claims, restructuring litigation, and cross-border enforcement matters involving clients and cases across Asia, the Caribbean and Europe.
The firm said Azmayesh has represented financial institutions, insolvency practitioners, shareholders and high-net-worth individuals in high-value cross-border disputes. Her experience also includes jurisdictional challenges, applications for interim relief, and disclosure proceedings.
“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Meenaa to our team,” Robert Jones, managing director of Baker & Partners (Cayman) Limited, said in a statement. He said her international experience would support the firm’s continued growth in the Cayman Islands and the wider Caribbean.
Azmayesh said she was looking forward to relocating to the Cayman Islands and cited the firm’s conflict-free operating model and the quality of its litigation work as reasons for joining the practice.
Her appointment follows the arrival of Natascha Steiner-Smith as a partner in the firm’s Cayman Islands office earlier this year, according to Baker & Partners.
