Premier to meet US officials and industry leaders in Washington, Chicago

Premier and Minister for Financial Services and Commerce André Ebanks will travel to Washington, D.C., and Chicago this week as part of the Cayman Islands Government’s ongoing engagement with US government officials, policymakers and financial services stakeholders.

The visit, scheduled for June 8-13, is intended to support discussions on issues affecting the Cayman Islands’ financial services sector and broader economic ties with the United States. Government officials said the trip is part of efforts to maintain international relationships and promote the jurisdiction’s financial services industry.

In Washington, Ebanks is expected to meet with senior officials from the US Department of the Treasury, members of Congress, congressional staff and representatives of industry organisations. Discussions are expected to cover international tax policy, financial regulation, cross-border investment, capital markets and the US-Cayman economic relationship.

The premier will be accompanied by Deputy Chief Officer Michele Bahadur, Senior Policy Advisor Razaak Busari and Cabinet Office International Affairs Analyst Sean Whewell. Cayman Islands Monetary Authority Chief Executive Officer Cindy Scotland and other representatives from the regulator are also expected to participate in the Washington portion of the visit.

The delegation will then travel to Chicago, where meetings are planned with government officials, insurance stakeholders, professional services firms and financial services industry representatives. The itinerary includes a Cayman Finance briefing and panel discussion, as well as events focused on insurance, investment funds and international financial services.

During the premier’s absence, Gary Rutty will serve as acting premier, while Johany “Jay” Ebanks will serve as acting deputy premier. Michael Myles will assume the role of acting minister for financial services and commerce.
