Maples Group advises Blackstone on final close of US$6.3 billion life sciences fund

The Maples Group advised Blackstone on the formation and final close of Blackstone Life Sciences VI, a $6.3 billion fund focused on life sciences investments, the firm said.

The fund is the largest life sciences private fund raised to date and is about 40% larger than its predecessor, according to the company. The vehicle will invest across the life cycle of companies and products in key life sciences sectors.

Maples provided Cayman Islands and Irish legal advice, as well as company secretarial, tax compliance and money laundering reporting officer services for the transaction.

A multi-jurisdictional team led the work, including partners Julian Ashworth, Peter Stapleton, Pádraig Brosnan, Stef Dimitriou, James Meehan and Brock Colville, with support from associates Ben Kennedy, Christopher Dudurovic and Cian Dennehy. Fiduciary and compliance services were also provided by team members in the Cayman Islands and Ireland.

In a statement, partner Julian Ashworth said the fundraise reflects Blackstone’s position in the life sciences sector. Blackstone launched its dedicated life sciences platform in 2018.
