Appleby names Simon Raftopoulos to lead Cayman Islands office

Simon Raftopoulos

Offshore law firm Appleby has appointed Simon Raftopoulos as managing partner of its Cayman Islands office, replacing Norman Klein, who retired after 25 years with the firm.

Raftopoulos will oversee one of Appleby’s largest offices, including its corporate, finance, funds, dispute resolution and private client teams. The firm said the change is part of a broader leadership transition in Cayman, where it also named Benjamin Woolf as head of its corporate practice and promoted two lawyers to partner.

Klein had led the Cayman office and helped build it into one of the firm’s flagship jurisdictions, according to Malcolm Moller, Appleby’s group managing partner. In a statement, Moller said Raftopoulos had played a central role in expanding the office’s corporate and transactional work.

Raftopoulos said he plans to build on the office’s existing practice as it serves clients in Cayman and abroad. Appleby described him as a finance and corporate lawyer with a long-standing role in the firm’s Cayman operations.

As part of the transition, Woolf will take over leadership of Appleby’s corporate practice in Cayman. The firm said he has significant experience in structured finance and that the move is intended to provide continuity in one of its busiest practice areas.

Appleby also promoted Susan Fallan of dispute resolution and Alexandra Low of corporate to partner in the Cayman office. The firm said the promotions reflect its investment in leadership development across key practice groups.

Klein retired March 31, and Appleby thanked him for his service, leadership and mentorship during his time with the firm.
