Cayman delegation promotes reinsurance sector at ReFocus 2026 conference

A delegation of more than 40 professionals from the Cayman Islands attended the ReFocus 2026 conference in Las Vegas, meeting with US life insurance and reinsurance leaders as part of efforts to strengthen the jurisdiction’s ties with the North American market.

The annual conference, hosted by the American Council of Life Insurers and the Society of Actuaries, brings together senior executives from across the life and annuity insurance sector. Cayman representatives included officials from the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority and industry groups such as Cayman Finance, the Cayman International Reinsurance Companies Association and the Insurance Managers Association of Cayman.

Brittany MacVicar, associate director for insurance and reinsurance at Cayman Finance, said the conference provides an opportunity for the jurisdiction to engage directly with U.S. market participants and regulators. The strong turnout from Cayman, she said, reflects the growth of the captive insurance and reinsurance sectors and the importance of presenting a unified industry presence.

The delegation used the event to highlight the Cayman Islands’ regulatory framework and growing role as a reinsurance hub with connections to US insurers and reinsurers. The outreach forms part of broader engagement with regulators and industry leaders across the United States and Canada.

Connor Kearney, marketing chair for the Cayman International Reinsurance Companies Association, said the event allows Cayman representatives to maintain relationships with leaders across the life and annuity market.

This approach helps ensure decision-makers across the US are aware of Cayman’s, sector expertise, comprehensive regulatory standards, and responsiveness to market needs.

Kevin Poole, general manager of the Insurance Managers Association of Cayman, said: “For Cayman’s insurance management community, ReFocus provides an important opportunity to connect with insurers, reinsurers and advisors from across the life and annuity sector. Insurance managers play a central role in supporting many of the structures operating in Cayman, and maintaining those relationships is an important part of that work.”

Kristy Rivers, DART’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Leasing said ReFocus continues to be an important gathering for leaders across the global insurance and reinsurance market. “Cayman’s strong presence this year reflects the continued growth of the jurisdiction’s reinsurance sector and the depth of expertise supporting it. Dart was pleased to participate alongside industry partners as Cayman strengthens its position within the global reinsurance community.”

Delegates also invited industry leaders to attend ReConnect 2026, a reinsurance conference scheduled to take place in the Cayman Islands in April. The event is expected to bring together insurers, reinsurers and advisers for discussions on market trends and sector developments.
