The chief executive of the Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants (CIIPA) recently participated in an international advisory group meeting in New York focused on strengthening professional accounting bodies worldwide.
Sheree Ebanks attended the two-day meeting of the Professional Accountancy Organizations Development Advisory Group, convened by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). The discussions brought together global leaders in the accounting profession to examine strategic planning practices within professional accountancy organisations.
According to CIIPA, the meeting explored how professional bodies approach strategic planning, including the use of formal tools and the factors that help or hinder adoption of IFAC’s Strategic Planning Toolkit. Participants also discussed issues related to accessibility, scalability and interactive features needed to support implementation across different jurisdictions.
Ebanks attended the session in her capacity as technical adviser to Jill Santos of the Philippines Institute of Certified Public Accountants, a member of the advisory group. The discussions also covered global trends in professional accountancy organisation development, engagement with early-career professionals and the future direction of IFAC’s compliance program.
Ebanks said participation in the advisory group allows smaller professional bodies such as CIIPA to contribute perspectives to international frameworks and guidance affecting the accounting profession.
Outcomes from the meeting are expected to inform the advisory group’s priorities for 2026–27 and contribute to a future global assessment of professional accountancy organisation development, CIIPA said.
