Adam Crane, partner, Baker & Partners
Baker & Partners Cayman Islands Partner Adam Crane has been welcomed by INSOL International as an INSOL Fellow having completed the rigorous Global Insolvency Practice Course (GIPC).
INSOL International hosted its annual conference in Hong Kong from March 17-19 which brought together the world’s insolvency and restructuring community for three days of technical updates and networking. INSOL Fellows are a globally connected group of respected professionals, working together to elevate the insolvency profession and advance restructuring and insolvency issues.
Crane has significant experience advising clients in complex, cross-border insolvency and restructuring matters. He acts as an integral Partner for the Baker & Partners team in supporting the ongoing recovery of misappropriated assets in the offshore and certain onshore jurisdictions including the Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands, Channel Islands, Hong Kong, and Singapore in relation to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) fraud.
He also led the team who acted for the petitioning creditors who were retail Investors of Atom Asset Exchange (AAX) in the first winding up in the Cayman Islands related to a cryptocurrency exchange.
Crane is a recognised expert in cross-border insolvency and restructuring matters. In order to become an INSOL Fellow Adam had to complete a postgraduate certification programme, involving a series of lectures, various case studies, a short paper, an oral examination, and an intensive 9-day cross-border restructuring simulation. The GIPC programme focuses on the concepts of reorganisation, work-out, insolvency, winding-up, bankruptcy and the means by which the problems of multi-national companies in financial difficulty can be addressed, including approaches to preventing liquidation and insolvency.
Crane, who was one of 25 practitioners globally admitted as an INSOL Fellow this year, said: “It was a wonderful experience to have undertaken the GIPC programme which is designed to encourage collaborative and innovative thinking on many important issues which arise in cross-border insolvency. Participation in the course has honed my knowledge on key international insolvency issues and strengthened my relationships with a number of highly accomplished insolvency and restructuring practitioners around the globe.”
Stephen Baker, managing partner, added: “I am very pleased Adam has been admitted as an INSOL Fellow. This accreditation recognises his expertise in the field and his leadership roles and longtime contribution to the international insolvency community.”
