When you think of the financial services industry in the Cayman Islands, what comes to mind?

The financial services industry is more than a cornerstone of the Cayman Islands’ economy — it’s a vital partner in the community. From creating career opportunities to funding educational initiatives, the industry plays a pivotal role in shaping the Cayman Islands’ future.

Danielle Hennings, CPA and Associate Director at Cayman Finance, is a highly skilled Caymanian financial professional. Danielle represents the heart of the financial services industry, which is community-driven, locally grounded, and globally impactful.

In this blog, we dive into Danielle’s positive contributions to the industry; an example of a door that was once opened for her and remains open for all Caymanians, of any age, to do the same.

Driving change: Impactful contributions to the industry

The financial services industry is a significant employer of Caymanians. According to the 2021 Census Report, 12.4% of employed Caymanians work in financial and insurance activities, making it one of the largest industries employing Caymanians.

“The success of our financial industry is tied to the success of our people. My goal is to help Caymanians see themselves as an integral part of this story,” Danielle said.

Beyond its economic contributions, the financial services industry is dedicated to promoting sustainable growth and investing in community development. By focusing on long-term, responsible growth, the industry ensures that the benefits of its success are shared across the entire population, supporting the islands’ continued prosperity and well-being.

The human side of finance

Born and raised in the Cayman Islands, Danielle is a product of both the public and private school systems, proving that opportunity can flourish right here, as Danielle says:

“Cayman is my home. Choosing to study accounting and embark on a career in the financial services industry wasn’t just a decision for my future — it was a commitment to thrive in a field that allows me to give back to the community I love, all while staying close to the community that shaped me.”

Danielle earned both her Bachelor’s degree, with distinction, and her Master’s degree in Accounting from Penn State University. She then returned home, equipped with expertise and a strong passion for creating positive change.

The financial services industry contributes significantly to the economy and the broader community. As a cornerstone of the nation’s development, the industry continues to foster local talent. Cayman Finance supports these efforts through initiatives such as the LEAD programme, empowering Caymanians to excel in the field.

“It’s important for people to understand that the financial services industry is not a faceless entity — it’s made up of passionate individuals, two-thirds of them Caymanian, who care about the Cayman Islands,” Danielle added.

Forging a path to prosperity

Danielle and her work with Cayman Finance is redefining what the financial services industry means for Caymanians. It’s not just a career path; it’s a way to contribute to the growth and prosperity of our islands.

In her role at Cayman Finance, Danielle focuses on community engagement and talent development. Danielle spearheads the LEAD programme, which connects Caymanian high school students with opportunities in the financial services industry. Recognising that the industry’s success is intertwined with the success of its people, her mission is clear: to inspire Caymanians to take pride in their industry and become ambassadors for its value — locally and globally.

“Mentorship is the bridge between potential and success. I’m proud to work with young Caymanians, helping them realise that their dreams and ambitions have a place in our industry,” Danielle concluded.
