Cayman Islands law firm Claritas has expanded its litigation and insolvency offering, hiring Mark Burrows as counsel in its litigation and insolvency team.
Burrows is an experienced offshore commercial litigator, having practiced in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands for more than eight years. He advises on all aspects of commercial litigation with a particular focus on insolvency-related matters and merger appraisals.
Burrows typically advises financially distressed companies, liquidators, creditors, and minority shareholders. Prior to joining Claritas, he worked for global offshore law firms Collas Crill (Cayman) and Harneys (Cayman and Bermuda).
Claritas also hired Alexia Adda as counsel in September 2023.
“I am really excited about Mark’s joining Claritas. He and I worked closely together at Harneys, and so I know that he is a talented and dedicated lawyer, who will always go the extra mile for his clients,” said Katie Pearson, who leads Claritas’ litigation and insolvency practice. “He is also great fun to have on the team. As co-founder of Claritas, I am acutely aware that our firm will never be better than the people we are able to bring in, and I am pleased to have brought in one of the best,” she added.
The law firm was launched in June 2022 by former Harneys partner, Pearson, and Elisabeth Lees, a former prosecutor who prior to launching Claritas served as National Coordinator to the Anti-Money Laundering Steering Group of the Cayman Islands.
Claritas offers litigation and insolvency, white collar crime and regulatory legal advice. Its sister company, Claritas Compliance Limited, offers anti-money laundering, prudential and market conduct compliance advice.
Burrows said, “When the opportunity to join Claritas arose it was a no-brainer. I’ve worked with Katie before and she’s simply the best, and Elisabeth’s reputation speaks for itself.
“The firm’s rapid growth is a testament to the quality of the team they’ve put together, and I very much look forward to being part of it and the Claritas offering going forward.”
