Alexander McGrath 58th Caymanian Attorney to Train at Walkers

Walkers is pleased to announce the admission of Alexander McGrath, who is the 58th Caymanian to be trained with the firm as part of its comprehensive Legal Training Programme and called to the Cayman Islands Bar as an Attorney-at-Law.

Alex was a recipient of the 2016 Walkers Legal Scholarship and in 2018 completed his LLB degree at the University of Manchester, where he was awarded an Upper Second Class Honours degree. He went on to complete the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law in London Moorgate in 2019 and was awarded a Commendation. During his studies, Alex participated in three legal internships with Walkers, where he spent time with the Finance & Corporate, Insolvency & Dispute Resolution and Investment Funds groups.

While working at Walkers, Alex developed an interest in mentoring other young Caymanians who aspire to a career in law. He has participated in Walkers’ Annual Career Fair and has made presentations to students at the Truman Bodden Law School and local high schools.

“Being the 58th Caymanian to be trained by Walkers and called to the Cayman Islands Bar speaks volumes to the quality of the Walkers Legal Training Programme,” Alex shared during his admission speech. “It is a testament to Walkers’ commitment to training and preparing young Caymanians for a demanding, yet very rewarding career as a lawyer.”

Alex was articled to Walkers’ partner Colette Wilkins. As his Principal, Colette was particularly pleased to be able to move the application for Alex’s admission to the Cayman Bar before Hon. Justice Williams.  While doing so Colette noted that, “Alex has made a significant impression on everyone he’s worked with in the firm and excelled in every department he worked in during his articles of clerkship. He has an extremely strong work ethic and will make an excellent addition to the Finance & Corporate team at Walkers.”

In his free time, Alex is an avid rugby player and represented the Cayman Islands in the Under-19 North American and Caribbean Championships in 2018.
