On Friday 25 September, Grant Thornton Cayman Islands took an afternoon out of the office to participate in the global ‘GT in the Community’ corporate social responsibility day.

Each year, Grant Thornton’s 56,000 employees close office doors, as all staff are encouraged to get involved in local community projects, with a promise of the global initiative to ‘Act, Commit and Share’.

This year, the team headed to local restaurant Le Vele for a class on how to create authentic homemade pizza. The pizzas were then cooked on site and donated to the Cayman Food Bank.

Cayman Food Bank provide an island-wide distribution facility to ensure vulnerable and low-income families across the island have access to nutritious food. Phillip Hyre, Operations Manager of the initiative said ‘We are very grateful to Grant Thornton for their donation to Cayman Food Bank. We have over 300 families in need of support, with numbers growing even higher after the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.’

Each staff member crafted a pizza to donate, and Le Vele kindly matched the donation, contributing to the charity’s mission of mitigating island-wide hunger, malnutrition and poverty.

‘2020 has certainly provided challenges for our community, so we were pleased to be able to do a small bit to not only donate to charity, but to support local business too’, he continued.

Grant Thornton are active contributors to our local community, and the annual CSR day is just one element of their mission to create lasting, sustainable benefits that empowers our local community to thrive.
