Walkers Admits Caymanian Attorneys Lloyd Barker and Alexandra Franklin

Walkers is pleased to announce the admissions of Lloyd Barker and Alexandra Franklin, both of whom were called to the Cayman Islands Bar on Friday 26 June after completing their legal training with the firm. The admissions were the first to be heard in the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands since the Government enforced social distancing protocols in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lloyd was a recipient of the 2016 Walkers Legal Scholarship. The following year, he undertook the Graduate Diploma in Law at the University of Law, Manchester and was awarded a Commendation. By 2018, Lloyd had completed the joint LPC/LLM in Professional Legal Practice course with Distinction, also at the University of Law. Lloyd is a 2011 graduate of Wesleyan Christian Academy and was class valedictorian. He pursued a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree with High Distinction in Law from Carleton University in Canada, with a concentration in Business Law and a minor in Communication Studies. In 2012, he founded the Pursuit of Excellence – the Lloyd Barker Foundation, which aims to empower young people from an academic, social and developmental perspective. Lloyd was articled to Shelley White, a partner in the Insolvency & Dispute Resolution and Trust Disputes groups.

Alexandra was a 2013 Walkers Legal Scholarship recipient. She completed the Legal Practitioners Course with Distinction in 2018 at the University of Law in Leeds. Born and raised in the Cayman Islands, she was a graduate of John Gray High School before sitting her A Levels at St Ignatius Catholic School. She then undertook her LLB degree at Newcastle University in the United Kingdom, graduating in 2017 with Upper Second Class Honours. As part of her LLB Alexandra also spent one year in Spain as an exchange student, studying at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. She is currently a member of 100 Women in Finance and the Cayman Islands Legal Practitioners Association. Alexandra was articled to Tim Ludford-Thomas, a partner in Walkers’ Global Investment Funds Group.

“I am so grateful for the top-tier training I’ve received from Walkers,” shared Alexandra. “It will stand me in good stead for the rest of my career.”

Lloyd and Alexandra will both join the firm’s Finance & Corporate Group andare the 55th and 56th Articled Clerks to have trained in Walkers’ Cayman Islands office. The individual applications were moved by Walkers Partner Colette Wilkins; Lloyd’s before the Hon. Justice Williams and Alexandra’s before the Hon. Justice Ramsay-Hale.
